Learning to Curl is a great team-building event for your business, organization, or private party!
The Rochester Curling Club offers group instruction during our regular season from October through April. Our all-volunteer organization offers:
- Two-hour on-ice (introductory or advanced) curling experiences
- Optional meeting room rental before and/or after the curling experience
Our curling season runs from mid October through mid April.
The Basics
A two-hour session typically includes instruction, practice, and an instructor-assisted curling match. Arrive 20 minutes beforehand to fit your footware with our rubberized grippers and to view a short video on the sport,.
If you are part of a more experienced group who has previously curled with us, instruction time may be reduced to provide more time on the ice.
If anyone in your group experiences knee, back, or hip problems, we can instruct them in the use of a shuffleboard-style stick that will allow them to keep upright while delivering a stone.
Group Size
Groups of 8 to 32 people can be accommodated at one time on our 4 sheets of curling ice. Larger groups can be managed with more flexible and creative planning. For group sizes under 12 people, there is a minimum fee.
Rates
Curling
- Adults: $35/person
- Youth (ages 10-17): $25/person
- with a minimum fee of $350
This curling experience is not recommended for children under 10. Groups that include children younger than 10, or those with special needs, may be considered on an individual basis.
Meeting Room
- $50/hour, for use of our Warm Room before or after your event
- Be sure to specify your desire for this when you are scheduling your event
Deposits and Payments
The total fee will be charged based on the number of people given at the time you make your reservation, even if fewer actually attend. If more attend, then the charge will be increased accordingly. Please keep in mind that we may not have enough instructors to support late additions.
A $100 non-refundable deposit is required, and must be received in order to hold your spot. The remaining balance is due at the start of your event. If your business needs an invoice, please let us know during the reservation process.
Food and Beverages
You may bring in your own food and paper products, or you may order it delivered. Our kitchen is available to heat food and wash dishes. Please help us with clean up as required.
Soda and Juice is available to purchase or you may bring in your own non-alcoholic beverages.
Drinks can be paid by cash or credit card. Please note that outside alcoholic beverages are not allowed.
What to Wear
Clothing
The air in our Ice House is just above freezing on the curling ice, so you should dress warmly. We recommend wicking fabric and removable layers:
- Wind breaker or synthetic outer layer with warm inner layers
- Flexible athletic pants (like yoga pants, or hiking/golf pants)
- Thin gloves with grip and a hat
Jeans are discouraged, as non-flexible materials will restrict your movement and get cold. We have locker rooms for changing.
Footwear
Clean, relatively flat sneakers are best for curling. Please carry in clean shoes separately, as our parking lot tends to be snowy in the winter, and we want to keep our curling ice as dirt-free as possible.
Release Forms
We focus on your safety while you are at RCC, and supervise your curling experience for your safety. All participants are required to sign a release form. Release forms shall be filled out ahead of time with a link provided by your Coordinator. Forms not filled out in advance may delay your start time.
Things to Consider
If you want to use the bar, please let us know so that we can make arrangements for a bartender.
If you are interested in scheduling a group, please give us a minimum of 2 weeks notice to allow us time to line up volunteers. Thank you!
